About Me

A graduate of the original WriteWords Studio (1990), Ishbel Moore has been widely published. Noted for her sensitive handling of teen issues and medical conditions, Ishbel's novels have found faithful audiences across Canada, the USA, Europe and British Commonwealth countries.

Ishbel Moore

Winner of the Kathleen Strange Award for Distinguished Service to the Canadian Authors Association, Manitoba Branch (1998), and the Allan Sangster Award for Outstanding Dedication and Service to the National Canadian Authors Association (2001), she was also national president of this group in 2003-2004. An active volunteer in her community, Ishbel was the recipient of the Woman of Distinction Award by the YW-YMCA in 1995.

Ishbel has travelled extensively promoting writing and helping writers in rural communities to organize peer support groups, including Lovers Knot for writers of Romance, and the new Library Writers in Selkirk, MB. She has established a Blue Pencil Critiquing Service, primarily for isolated writers. However, this has spread to include any writer needing assistance and encouragement regardless of location. She has spent many hours encouraging young writers through school writing circles and community organizations.

Her writing however covers forays into sports, adventure, fantasy and time travel. Her articles appear regularly in the Horse Country Magazine, which she also helps to edit.

Ishbel was born in Scotland and immigrated as a teenager to Canada with her family in 1967. She is married and has three children. She enjoys spending time with her horses on her acreage in St. Andrews, as well as reading and eating chocolate (at the same time).
